Play With Purpose: Toys That
Support Every Stage of Development
Not every toy is doing the same job. Here's how to shop by the skill you're actually building — cognitive, fine motor, sensory, or social and emotional.
Cognitive Development
Cognitive development is how children learn to think, reason and make sense of the world around them — the mental groundwork behind problem-solving, memory, focus and early logic. Most of this learning happens through repetition and trial and error rather than instruction: a toddler stacking blocks is quietly practising cause-and-effect, sequencing and spatial reasoning every single time the tower falls and gets rebuilt. Open-ended toys that can be used more than one way tend to build these skills further than anything with a single "right" outcome.

Pastel Creative Pack 120pc
Open-ended magnetic construction that encourages creativity, spatial awareness and engineering thinking.

Spot's Magnet Dress Up
Builds problem solving skills, creativity and focus through hands on magnetic play.

Cone Sorting
An engaging sorting activity that nurtures logical thinking, pattern recognition and early problem-solving through purposeful play.
Encourage little thinkers to build, sort, solve and discover through play.
Fine Motor Development
Fine motor skills are the small, precise movements made by the muscles in the hands, fingers and wrists — the same muscles used later on for holding a pencil, doing up buttons or using a fork. These skills develop in stages, starting with a baby's whole-hand grasp and gradually refining into the pincer grip needed to pick up small objects. Toys that involve grasping, pinching, twisting or tapping give those little muscles repeated, low-pressure practice long before school-readiness ever becomes a conversation.

Geometric Wonders Musical Pounding Bench
Encourages little hands to build coordination, dexterity and confidence through interactive pounding play.

Construction Set
Strengthens fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and dexterity as little hands twist, tighten and build.

Wooden Bead Maze
Guiding beads along a wire maze builds precision, concentration and hand-eye coordination.
Every grasp, stack and squeeze helps prepare growing hands for everyday skills.
Sensory Development
Sensory play is any activity that engages a child's senses — touch, sight, sound, smell, and movement and balance — and it's one of the earliest ways babies make sense of their environment, long before language develops. Every texture explored, sound investigated, or object mouthed and shaken is helping to build the neural pathways behind attention, body awareness and later learning. Because babies and toddlers are naturally drawn to this kind of input, sensory toys often hold their attention far longer than toys that only do one thing.

Montessori Discoverosity Soft Activity Book
Crinkle sounds and multiple textures for tactile and auditory exploration from the earliest weeks.

Silver Lining Cloud Pull & Play Sensory Toy
Soft silicone textures encourage tactile exploration and early cause-and-effect discovery.

Montessori Discoverosity 3-in-1 Sensory Table
A 24-piece sensory table for scooping, pouring and hands-on exploring as toddlers grow.
Bright colours, interesting textures and engaging sounds make every play session a learning experience.
Social & Emotional Development
Social and emotional development covers how children come to understand their own feelings and learn to relate to others — skills that are harder to teach directly than counting or colours, but just as important. Pretend play is one of the most natural ways this happens: acting out a trip to the doctor or running a pretend shop lets a child rehearse real-life situations, practise turn-taking and conversation, and work through feelings in a safe, low-stakes way. It's also often where language develops fastest, since role play naturally produces back-and-forth dialogue.
Fruit & Smoothie Blender Set
Encourages imaginative play, creativity and social skills as little ones create, serve and share their smoothie creations.
Vintage Doctor Roleplay Wooden Kit
Helps children understand everyday experiences — like a check-up — while building empathy.
Shop & Café Market Stand
A 2-in-1 reversible shop and café that encourages sharing, conversation and cooperative play.
Imaginative play helps children express themselves while learning to communicate and connect with others.
